The Slavic Table: A Feast of Welcome

In Slavic homes, a meal is never just a meal. Guests are met at the threshold with bread and salt, and the table is loaded with abundance: bowls of borscht, platters of pelmeni and vareniki, pickled vegetables, fresh black bread, and a steaming samovar at the ready. To sit at a Slavic table is to be treated like family.

Every gathering is carried along by toasts. With wit and feeling, the host raises a glass — to peace, to parents, to friendship, to those who are gone — and the whole table drinks together. A heartfelt toast can bring a room to laughter or to tears.

This is the spirit we bring to Orlando: come hungry, come curious, and leave having been welcomed like an old friend.
